Dr Katherine Elvira is a Canada Research Chair and Associate Professor at the University of Victoria, Canada. She leads an internationally recognised research program at the interface of analytical chemistry and cell biology. She uses microfluidic (lab-on-a-chip) technologies to build bespoke artificial cells and tissues that mimic human cells to predict how molecules enter cells. Dr Elvira will be collaborating with Dr Charlotte Lloyd in the School of Geographical Sciences on Building bespoke artificial cells to investigate how environmental nanoplastics affect human cell membranes.
