Progression to a Dentistry degree

If you successfully complete the programme, you will be awarded the Certificate of Achievement

After the International Foundation Programme

You are not guaranteed to progress directly to the BDS Dentistry course. However, successful completion will guarantee you a place in the multiple mini interview process.

You will still need to apply through UCAS and you will still need to meet the standard entry criteria. We will support you during this application process.

Entry requirements for Dentistry

To move onto BDS Dentistry you need to:
  • achieve the academic requirements for the IFP units
  • achieve an overall IELTS score of 7.5
  • get a competitive score in the UCAT
  • perform suitably well within the multiple mini interview selection process.

Missed the requirements

If you miss the Medicine or Dentistry requirements, we may offer you a place on a Life Sciences degree. You will also be free to apply for dental degrees at other universities.

Degree progression

The programme is designed to help students to make competitive applications for undergraduate degree courses in Dentistry in the UK, including those offered at Bristol.

Students will not progress directly from the IFP to a Dentistry degree. However, students who successfully complete the IFP are guaranteed a place in the dental interview selection process.

The IFP Dentistry provides you an alternative entry route to the same five-year A206 BDS Dentistry course, under the following conditions:

  • You will self-fund your clinical placement. This will incur an extra fee in addition to the tuition fees for international students published in the University of Bristol course finder. The fees are subject to change annually.
  • You will not be able to apply for Dental Foundation Training in the UK upon graduation. This means that you would not be able to practise as an NHS dentist in the UK. However, subject to the appropriate visa, you could work as a private/general practitioner in the UK as you would still graduate with a General Dental Council accredited degree, making you eligible to register with the General Dental Council.

If students do not meet all the entry requirements of the Dentistry course, we may be able to offer a place on a Life Science degree, subject to academic performance in the IFP.

Students are also free to apply for courses at other universities.
