Anna Lewis - Sustainable Science Manager

Anna has seven year's experience working in sustainable science, and is the Sustainable Science Manager at the University of Bristol and co-founder of the Laboratory Efficiency Action Network. She has a background in climate change science and molecular biology, which she applies to improve the environmental impact of higher education STEM activities and infrastructure. Combining both her laboratory and environmental backgrounds, she coordinates the 'Sustainable Science and Green Labs' Initiative at the University of Bristol in which she improves lab efficiency, reduces energy and waste, and drives behaviour change.

Will Capps - Green Labs Project Officer (Faculty of Social Science & Law)

Will is currently based in the Faculty of Social Science & Law studying towards a Master of Research in Sustainable Futures. Before this, he studied Environmental Science. He recently shifted his focus towards a more interdisciplinary approach to sustainability and hopes to bring some of these insights into the Green Labs team. He is passionate about equity and believes empowering individuals is the most effective starting point for change and will try to deliver this message, wherever, through this new role.

Tristan Heap - Green Labs Project Officer (Faculty of Science)

Tristan is the newest member of the Green Labs team! He is entering his 4th year in Earth Sciences where he will be conducting a masters project on past and modern climate change through geoscientific techniques. Tristan is looking forward to carrying out analysis to help the University on its way to net zero.

Past members:

Alice - Green Labs Project Officer (Faculty of Life Sciences)

Whilst completing my master's in Biomedical Sciences Research at the University of Bristol, I am also working as a communications intern for the Green Labs department. I have a keen interest in sustainable science, as I believe scientific research shouldn't cost the Earth! My role consists of sharing the achievements that labs in the University have made in their efforts to be more sustainable and gain further LEAF accreditation. I enjoy communicating ways to make laboratory research more sustainable through the Green Labs Twitter page (@UoBGreenLabs), weekly LEAF update and the monthly Green Labs Newsletter

Sophie - Green Labs Project Officer (Faculty of Engineering)

I am currently in my fourth year studying Civil Engineering. I am particularly interested in sustainability because I enjoyed completing sustainability assessments in the group projects during my course, which involved selecting appropriate structural materials to reduced embodied carbon. I joined the Green Labs department as a carbon analysis officer, my main duties are associated with calculating the carbon foot-print across the University to support the Sustainability Team in developing the Climate Action Plan

Amelia – Green Labs Project Officer (Faculty of Life Sciences)

Originally from London, I am currently studying at Bristol University for an integrated master's in Biology. I have always had a passion for environmental protection and sustainability so have loved integrating this passion with my academic interests in scientific research. My role as a Green Labs Project Officer involves promoting sustainable science initiatives at the University and running behaviour and engagement campaigns to encourage lab users to adopt sustainable practices and reduce the environmental impact of their research.

Lucy - Green Labs Project Officer

I have recently started a Masters by Research in Animal Behaviour within the School of Biological Sciences. Pandemic permitting, I will be working on the Dwarf Mongoose Project out in South Africa for my data collection. As one of the Green Labs Project Officers my role focuses on implementing LEAF in all the STEM labs at Bristol University.

Clara - Green Labs Project Officer

I am currently in my third year studying Medical Microbiology. I am a huge fan of science in general but my specific interest lies in infectious diseases, particularly in the context of global health; I am looking to do a master's next year in Epidemiology, Health Sciences or Global Health with a focus on infectious diseases. I am also passionate about sustainability and anything to do with being better for our planet. I am really excited to be joining the Green Labs team so I can be involved in and learn more about sustainability within STEM and scientific research as well as reduce the environmental impact of STEM facilities at the University of Bristol.
