In or out? Financial exclusion: a literature and research review

This project was commissioned in order to produce an overview of existing research on financial exclusion, covering the period since 1995. The overall aims were to identify the extent, nature and causes of financial exclusion and to set these within an overall context of social exclusion and to identify the barriers to inclusion and ways of tackling them. In addition, the report identifies areas where more research may be needed.

The main focus of the research relates to the UK, although the report also covers key research in the European Union and the United States.
