Fully funded +3 (three year) PhD studentship: Futures Studio

We are delighted to announce a fully funded +3 (three year) PhD studentship to commence in January 2024, linked to the Centre’s Futures Studio:
The Futures Studio integrates and supports research across the Centre. Four ‘threads’ drive the creation of interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral capabilities and capacities for sociodigital futures research and intervention. These threads are: (i) theoretical innovation for sociodigital futures research (ii) method and tools for sociodigital futures research (iii) Arts based design-thinking for sociodigital futures research; and (iv) collaborative practice for sociodigital futures research and experimentation. We are looking for ideas for doctoral projects that explore a topic related to the work of the threads in the Futures Studio. The project will likely focus on capabilities and capacities for sociodigital futures research and intervention. We welcome projects that don’t fit neatly into one disciplinary area – particularly those that transcend substantive siloes, at the intersection of the Social Sciences, Engineering and Arts. We also welcome projects that involve collaboration with any of our key partners (for example Defra, BT, UNESCO, Locality, NCSC).
Indicative areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- collaborative or co-produced futures research
- (co-)designing futures research
- speculative design
- imagination and futures
- activist research
- futures research inclusive of people living at the margins.
