REPLICATE is a European research and development project that aims to deploy integrated energy, mobility and ICT solutions in city districts.  There are three lead cities (called Smart City ‘Lighthouses’), which include San Sebastian (Spain), Florence (Italy), and Bristol (UK).  There are also a number of other ‘follower’ cities, including Essen (Germany), NilĪ‹fer (Turkey) and Lausanne (Switzerland).  In addition to this, there are also a number of ‘Observer’ cities such as Guangzhou (China) and Bogota (Columbia).  The project has a consortium that consists of 38 partners altogether.

The project aims to enhance the transition process to a Smart City in the following areas:

(1) Energy efficiency – saving energy consumption up to 56% in relation to the existing situation in building retrofitting, and up to 35% in District Heating

(2) Sustainable Mobility – integrating sustainable EVs, recharging systems and Information Mobility System (more than 200 EV units, 228 charging points)

(3) Integrated ICT infrastructures – developing new sustainable and cost-effective services to citizens, providing integrated infrastructures that improve efficiencies in the use of local public resources and the delivery of Public Services (new ICT model based on FI-WARE and Open Data Management, new intelligent lighting system based on new LED technology, high speed mobile wireless network based on postWIMAX technology).
