Piero Castoldi

Piero Castoldi (IEEE Senior Member) got his Ph.D. degree in Information Technology from the University of Parma in 1996. In 1996 and 1997 he was a post-doc at the Department of Electrical Engineering of Princeton University (USA) where he was also hosted in the summers 1999 and 2000.   

He is currently Full Professor in Telecommunications and Responsible for the "Networks and Services" area of the TeCIP Institute at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa, Italy).  He formerly was Assistant Professor at the University of Parma and later Associate Professor at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna (Pisa, Italy). He has been involved with various responsibilities in several national and EU FP7 and H2020 projects and he has managed several corporate-sponsored projects with the italian Railway Infrastruture Company, Ericsson, Telecom Italia and other companies.  

He has served as project manager for several projects of the Italian National Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT). His teaching activity has been extensive including the coordination of two Erasmus Mundus Master programs.  His most recent research interests lie in the areas of optical network architectures, interconnection networks for Data Centers, networks for industrial applications, 5G networking.   

He is author of more than 400 technical papers published in international journals and international conference proceedings. He has also filed more than 20 patents and he has authored an book on multiuser detection for CDMA mobile terminals published by Artech House.
