Riccardo Manno from Bristol Composites Institute wins EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account funding
12 August 2021
Riccardo Manno, a final year PhD student from the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Composites for Innovation and Science (ACCIS CDT), has been awarded a £40,000 Impact Acceleration Account grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
The 7-month project, which will start on 1 September 2021, is titled 'MicroTool – Micro-modelling tool for Ceramic Matrix Composites'. The project will aim to provide Rolls-Royce with a micro-modelling software, which will aid the design of Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs).
Riccardo said: "I was really surprised when I learned that I had won this Impact Acceleration grant, mainly because I presented it as the Principal Investigator while I am about to complete my PhD. Although it is a small grant, it made me feel proud of the work we have developed during the last four years at the Bristol Composite Institute.
The CoSEM CDT (established in 2019) has evolved from the highly successful and established ACCIS CDT (2014-2022) to address exciting doctoral training opportunities for multidisciplinary composite materials engineering and manufacture.
