Visit by leading Russian Aerospace Universities to the Department of Aerospace Engineering, University of Bristol, 22nd April 2013
The 22 April 2013 saw a visit by a high profile delegation visit of representatives from two leading Russian Aerospace universities; Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI), State University of Aerospace Technologies and Samara State Aerospace University. The MAI is ranked among the 12 best universities in the Russian Federation. The rank of a “National Research University” in aeronautical and astronautical engineering was recently conferred to the institute by the Russian Federal Government. Samara State Aerospace University is also a national research university for aerospace, considered to be one of the best in Russia.
The visit was hosted by Prof Ian Bond, Head of Aerospace Engineering, and provided an opportunity for Russian colleagues to find out more about aerospace teaching and research in the UK, and also to consider how mutually beneficial links could be initiated. Following a series of presentations and discussions, the delegation was given a tour of the excellent facilities at Bristol.
The visitors from Russia were Prof Alexey Sidorov, Deputy Head of Educational-Methodology Association (EMA) of higher education in the field of aviation, missile engineering and space, Prof Dmitry Kozorez, Deputy head of school of Robotics and Intelligent Systems, Prof Marina Yakovleva, Head of the department for international students assistance (all MAI), Prof Dmitry Pashkov, Vice-rector for informatisation, Samara State Aerospace University, Igor Isakov, British Council Russia and Eugenia Kurochka, interpreter.
