New x-ray equipment available in ACCIS

x-ray imageA new digital x-ray facility is now available in ACCIS for the inspection of composite materials. The system, originally donated by BAE Systems has been comprehensively overhauled and updated as part of the installation at the University of Bristol. It is capable of ~180kV output, with an 8 micron spot size. The image shows an x-ray of a composite sample tested in tension, with matrix cracking damage highlighted through the use of zinc-iodide penetrant. For requests for access please contact Stephen Hallett (stephen.hallett@bristol.ac.uk) or Julie Etches (j.etches@bristol.ac.uk).
