EPSRC CIMCOMP Fellowship awarded

EPSRC CIMComp (EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Composites) is the focus for fundamental innovative composites manufacturing research in the UK, underpinning the development of next-generation composites manufacturing processes. CIMComp, led by the University of Nottingham, delivers a co-ordinated programme of research at four of the leading universities in composites manufacturing, namely the Universities of Nottingham, Bristol, Cranfield and Manchester.

Dr. ByungChul (Eric) Kim has been awarded EPSRC CIMCOMP Fellowship. During his previous project ABBSTRACT2 (Airbus-Bristol-Bath STrategic Research Alliance in Composites Technology), he invented a unique tow steering technology, CTS (Continuous Tow Shearing), to minimize the process-induced defects of current automatic fibre placements by using in-plane shear deformation of tow materials. During this two year fellowship, he will further develop his CTS prototype head by adding special capabilities for application to more complex geometries, which will be aligned to the aim of the ‘Complex geometry’ core project of the CIMCOMP.
