Two Bristol students are winners of the New CE award

Tom Bartley and Joe Smith win the New CE awardTwo Bristol students are winners of the new CE award, Tom Bartley a post graduate research engineer at the Industrial doctorate centre in Systems (EngD in Systems) and with the company sponsor Parsons Brinckerhoff came 2nd and Joe Smith a Bristol Civil Engineering graduate who now works for Arup came 1st.  Both Tom and Joe were 1 of 6 finalists among 150 international and UK applicants for this prestigious award.

Joe graduated with a 1st class MEng in 2012 and joined Arup as a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer in London. He was presented the award in recognition of his ability to articulate the challenges civil engineers now need to solve, and he has worked on a number of high profile projects – including the preliminary foundation design for the Garden Bridge, London, and the testing supervision for a new BSI Speedway track at the Friends Arena, Stockholm.

The NCE Graduate Awards are designed to recognise the most promising all round civil engineers who graduated during 2012 and are now enjoying their first post graduate jobs, putting into practice what they learned at university.
