Dr Laura Dickinson wins UBU Outstanding Teacher Award

UBU Outstanding Teacher AwardCongratulations to Dr Laura Dickinson who was awarded the UBU Outstanding Teacher Award on Thursday 20 June 2013.

Professor Judith Squires AcSS, FRSA who presented her with the Award said:

“Laura consistently goes above and beyond what is expected of a member of staff to improve the experience of students at Bristol University.  She is an engaging and interesting lecturer and she understands her students, and what appeals to them, incredibly well which is shown in her interactive lecturing style and emphasis on well-maintained student-lecturer communication and feedback.  She is approachable and is always willing to help and answer questions.

Furthermore, she is an outstanding personal tutor and project supervisor and always ensures that her tutor group are coping with the academic and personal demands of university life.  Laura links students across different year groups to inspire each other and share advice, leads revision sessions on topics outside of her subject area, gives clear, thorough guidance on CVs and writing references, attends site visits and client meetings for third year research projects in addition to continuous personal interest and detailed advice.

She has been involved in supporting the project, "Engineers Without Borders" from the outset, using her expertise and academic contacts to support and advance the project, which is an extra-curricular student-run project aiming to fund low-cost, sustainable methods of providing share drinking water to communities in India.  Laura joined the University two years ago and is a role model for female engineering students and we are proud to recognise her dedication and enthusiasm for the students she works with.”
