Dr Andrew Garrad, Chair Bristol 2015

Lecture Theatre 1, School of Chemistry, University of Bristol, Cantocks Close, BS8 1TS

In this lecture, the Chairman of Bristol 2015, Dr Andrew Garrad, will give a talk on wind energy - technology and politics, drawing on his invaluable experiences in the sector. This event is supported by the University of Bristol's Centre for Public Engagement and Cabot Institute, the Festival of Ideas and Bristol 2015.

Renewable energy now produces electricity on a scale similar to the “conventionals”. Last year renewables in the UK produced more electricity than nuclear. 15 years ago its contribution was minimal. Although solar is rapidly catching up, wind energy has blazed the trail. This talk will discuss the technology and the politics of this extraordinary journey. It is a potent combination of technology and politics.
