This seminar will summarise an analysis of two classes of problems whose manifestations are encountered across various engineering disciplines, including branches of computer graphics and vision.

Dr. Kartic Subr is an Associate Professor at Heriot-Watt University. Before joining Heriot-Watt University in Jul 2014, he was a post-doctoral researcher at Disney Research, in Edinburgh. Prior to that position at Disney Research, he was a Newton International Fellow, and an Honorary Research Associate at the dept of Computer Science, University College London. Between 2008 and 2010 he was  at INRIA-Grenoble, working with Cyril Soler and Nicolas Holzschuch. He obtained his Ph.D. at the University of California, Irvinein June, 2008 under the guidance of Jim Arvo. His dissertation explores the different sampling decisions that are made in Monte Carlo image synthesis and suggests improved techniques in certain contexts.
