Education research

Two principal research streams are embedded within this theme:

Pedagogy

Our research aims to drive forward innovations in effective teaching, learning, assessment and feedback practices to enhance the overall student experience, including exploiting the latest advances in digital dentistry.

There is also significant focus on approaches to decolonise the dental curriculum, promote widening participation, and to successfully embed initiatives that foster a diverse and inclusive environment in which the resilience and wellbeing of our students is supported throughout their education.

Engagement

This research encompasses two key aspects - engagement with research, and with the community.

To ensure our students are research-informed, they receive training in good clinical practice, and we aim to provide opportunities for all students to directly contribute to research conducted within the School. Through the Dental Innovation Hub, we bring students and staff together with industry leaders to experience the latest dental technologies.

To fulfil our civic responsibilities and to ensure that dentistry reflects society at large, we embed community engagement activities throughout our educational and research programmes. These include the development of public health materials and a suite of outreach activities, such as visits to schools and under-served groups within the local community.
