Local Infiltration and Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block Anaesthesia Administration Refresher

A course primarily for registered dental hygienists or therapists who have previously completed infiltration and inferior alveolar nerve block anaesthesia training. It aims to refresh your skills in administration of these dental procedures.

CPD Certificate: 6 hours of CPD 

Course Requirements: 

  • Request for year & place of qualification
    Copy of current GDC certificate
  • For dental hygienists & therapists qualified prior to 2002, they will need to provide evidence of extended duty training in both local infiltration & block anaesthesia.
  • Overseas dentists need to provide evidence they have completed the overseas registration examination (ORE)

Course Objectives:

On the course you will:

  1. Refresh your understanding of the current position regarding prescription only medicines.
  2. Recognise the current local anaesthetic solutions and equipment available.
  3. Demonstrate a safe technique and delivery of infiltration & block anaesthesia on phantom head models.
  4. Safely manage complications of local infiltration.

At the time of going to press, although Exemptions Legislation to enable Dental Hygienists & Therapists to select and administer a fixed list of POM medicines has been given parliamentary approval, the further training required to use this mechanism has yet to be agreed. Therefore this course will focus on updating the theoretical and practical aspects of LA delivery. Not the prescribing of POMs
