In the CDT there is the opportunity to speak to a wide range of people with a variety of specialities, thus allowing you to discuss ideas and thoughts on multi/inter disciplinary issues which is a key skill in industry.
Everyone has come from a different background and therefore has a individual speciality which they can share with the others in the cohort.
Being part of a cohort means that you get a sense of 'being in it together' rather than being alone. The fact that there is a whole cohort of people starting at the same time encourages a very supportive atmosphere and gives many opportunities to discuss ideas with people from different backgrounds. It is also very beneficial for settling into a new city and working culture having a cohort around you.
The broad range of educational backgrounds and nationalities within a cohort really diversifies the approaches to problem solving. Most interestingly, the research collaboration opportunities increase exponentially when the students come from different institutes across the world.
(Students prior to 2019 are affiliated to the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Composites for Innovation and Science (ACCIS CDT). See Vision for more detail)
