What is Campus Heart?
Campus Heart is a place at the centre of the campus, along Tyndall Avenue. We want you to be able to come together to learn, study, be social, relax, get help and support - and we're transforming the campus to create these spaces.
Why is this important?
Academic achievement is important. But enabling that achievement also matters. Students and staff have told us they need more space, more opportunities to connect and a greater sense of belonging. We’ve listened.
Through the Campus Heart programme we're building new spaces at the heart of the campus to do just that.
You said, we did
There have been a lot of changes already. Significant upgrades to our fantastic gym in the Sports Centre are open.
Since then we have transformed Senate House to provide new teaching spaces and new, dedicated spaces for current students and staff. We built a new food court, Bristol SU café/bar and a new information point in the centre of campus. There are study spaces through the building, and our fantastic Global Lounge is open to all students. You’ll also find one of five Bristol SU Living Rooms on Level 4.
Plans for a new University Library reached a new milestone when planning permission was approved. A new library space will mean more study spaces, and a new home for our world-class Cultural Collections.
The new library will also sit in a new civic square, providing a welcoming and inspiring public realm for the whole city. This pedestrianised area between the library and refurbished Senate House will create a sense of arrival and better connect the area with Royal Fort Gardens.
The proposed new road layouts will improve traffic flow, enhance pedestrian and cycling routes and make the whole area enjoyable, safer and accessible for everyone.
We will keep you updated as our plans for this exciting new development progress.
