Professor Richard Owen, University of Exeter and EPSRC strategic advisor in responsible innovation and BrisSynBio Scientific Advisory Board member.

Synthetic biology has the potential to provide transformative solutions to some of the most pressing global challenges. Achieving this will require the combined effort of world-leading researchers working across conventional subject boundaries freely exchanging knowledge, tools, technologies and ways of working. BrisSynBio is committed to ensuring that we do this in a safe and responsible manner. We are working with other key centres across the UK to define the responsible research and innovation framework for synthetic biology.

Additionally our academics are investigating that social, ethical and philosophical questions that are emerging as the field of synthetic biology develops.
