Subject Editorial Boards and Abstract Submissions
The BILT Student Research Journal provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain practical, professional experience in academic publishing through joining the Editorial Board. The Editorial Board receive training and guidance in academic editing and publishing practices, as well as developing key skills in project management, publicity, publishing, and editing.
Applications for the Editorial Board are now closed. If you wish to submit an abstract, this is still possible until late January 2024.
The BILT Student Research Journal is built on an ethos of collaboration, creating a culture of pride and value in exceptional undergraduate research, and encouraging the engagement of students as co-producers and facilitators of their own work. The Subject Editorial Boards are essential to this, carrying out a rigorous peer-review process and providing critical, lively feedback.

Abstract Submissions
Abstract submissions for the 2023/24 edition of the journal have closed, and submissions for the next edition will foreseeably reopen in autumn/winter 2024.
Subject Editor
- This is the most senior student position available
- Reports to the Editor in Chief and Deputy Editor in Chief
- Leads the Editorial Board for their subject
- Organises the call for papers from their subject
- Oversees the peer review process
- This role is best suited to students in thrid year and above, owing to the reponsibility and experince needed for the role.
Deputy Subject Editor
- Assist the Subject Editor
- Take on roles for their Subject Board in agreement with subject editor
- Can also be involved in the Peer Review Process
- Number of Deputy Editors dependent on the size of subject Editorial Board
- This role is best suited to students in thrid year and above, owing to the reponsibility and experince needed for the role.
Peer Reviewer
- Members of the wider Subject Editorial Board
- Review of articles submitted, suggest improvements and decide which submissions will be published
- Help the Subject Editors and Deputy Editors to establish guidelines for submissions in their subject
- There will be multiple Peer Reviewers per Subject Editorial Board
