Public events!

24 October 2016

The past couple of months have been a busy but exciting time for the project team. On 8th October we held a public discussion at the MShed Museum on the topic ‘Can we know what it was like to be enslaved?’ Vanessa, Ralph, Emma, Catriona and I each gave our own responses to this question before opening to the audience. We had a great public response and feedback, with lots of people interested in hearing how we worked together on this question and eager to situate the discussion in the context of the history of Bristol.

Then, on Saturday 22nd, a group of writers read their work at the Georgian House Museum. We were overwhelmed with visitors, who couldn’t all fit in at once. So Edson stepped outside to perform to the queue and then Catriona and Emma chatted about the project to those waiting. Once inside, the audience was able to hear a series of intimate and moving readings in different rooms of the house.

We even made it onto TV! At the dress rehearsal, a crew from BBC Points West came to film Cedar, Jenny, Ros and I and a short item was broadcast on Tuesday 18th October.

All the pieces have been published on the website and we are now looking forward to seeing the film of the project from Michael at 8th Sense Media.
