Contract type 12 months

Closing date for applications 8th of November 2024

Starting in November 2024 for 12 months, this post is for a suitable University of Bristol PhD candidate who has completed at least their first year of study. The IGRCT promotes research into all aspects of Greco-Roman culture from antiquity to the present day, in the belief that classical culture remains a vital influence in the modern world. It embraces research from many disciplines and has a particular focus on research that explores the links between ancient and modern. It achieves its aims by hiring postdoctoral research fellows and supporting their research, inviting distinguished scholars to give seminars and lectures, holding symposia and conferences, cultivating international links with other scholars and organisations, and supporting the development of research projects in the faculty.

The intern will work with the Institute’s Co-ordinator, Director, and Deputy Director; the role would suit someone with an interest in the Institute’s activities. The intern’s role is to support the day-to-day running of the Institute, to help with the programme of events, to maintain the Institute’s social media presence (on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube) by generating content and recording material, and to provide technical support at Institute public events.

Tasks will include event and conference support; creating and circulating publicity; promoting and reporting on Institute activities; collating digital content for the Annual Report; managing mailshots; attending IGRCT Executive Committee meetings; maintaining the Institute’s brand identity; supporting general running of the Institute (email, phone); and updating the Institute’s webpages using T4 (training will be provided). There will be occasions when the intern will be required to assist with out-of-hours events, which could involve supporting a drinks reception and generally being on hand to assist with any issues that might arise. The intern may be asked to take the lead on organising an event if it is relevant to their research interests.

The closing date for applications will be midday on the 8th of November 2024. If you are invited to attend an interview, you’ll need to be available in the two weeks commencing the 11th of November and the 18th of November. If you are not able to attend in-person, we can arrange a virtual interview. To apply, please send a CV (maximum 2 pages and including the names of your supervisors) and covering letter (1-2 pages) outlining your suitability for the post, including any relevant experience, to jessica.phoenix.weeks@bristol.ac.uk. For informal discussion about the post please contact jessica.phoenix.weeks@bristol.ac.uk.
