Female genital cutting and intimate partner violence are often grouped together as forms of gender based violence, and it is suggested that these behaviours could be tackled collaboratively. However, this study demonstrates the fundamental differences between female genital cutting and intimate partner violence, and the results indicate that eradication programmes will be more effective when targeted at specific behaviours.
