Building Up to Bristol for Mature Students

Our Building Up to Bristol sessions help mature students prepare for undergraduate study in an active and practical way. Working together with their peers, they gain confidence and develop their understanding of academic language and culture.

The Building Up to Bristol for Mature Students sessions help students:

  • read critically, reflect on their learning, and get the most out of their lectures
  • listen and respond constructively when working in a team or seminar context
  • develop writing styles and processes for a variety of academic contexts
  • understand the expectations of their academic community, and how to engage with feedback.

The sessions are designed to fit around commitments such as childcare and school runs. They take place just before Welcome Week each year. We also offer follow-up sessions in the first term.
