Introduction -- First Year -- Second Year -- Third Year
Second Year Economics
Although not necessary, most second year units are based upon a variety of texts but supported by detailed journal articles. This means that a good understanding of the
Social Sciences Library and the Athens system are essential; view our Jounnal Guide for detials.
Macroeconomics

Same textbook as for 1st year Macro but the focus is on the long run and Aggregate Supply. Points are explained in detail, with good use of diagrams.
A useful feature is how the author often puts the theory into context with detailed examples from history and current economic affairs.
This textbook is also extensively used in your second year so a good investment all round.
Macroeconomics 8/e

Dornbusch, Fischer and Startz
I used the 8/e for my intermediate undergraduate Macro class. It covers all the bases you'll need to, but is a bit lacking in more
challenging material such as the calculus that you will be likely to use at this level of study. It is well written and interesting,
but you'll probably need to supplement it here and there if your looking for real mastery of the topics.
These guys did come up with some of the more current theories so you can't really go wrong with this one.

This book was introduced by saying that Varian was the simple version; she wasn't joking. This book is exceptionally complicated
with Mathematical explanations to teach theory instead of the normal intuition based approach. I rarely used this book and never really
understood what it was explaining and used Varian extensively instead. That said, Varian does fall far short of 2nd year Micro and so I strongly
recommend finding an alternative in the Library.
QM 3
Introduction to Econometrics Dougherty
I have used this textbook extensively although it does not cover all the topics. It has takes a full approach by starting with first principles
and developing up to more complex issues. Many of the exercise lecture examples are based upon the book so I would recommend purchasing this book
if you intend to do the examples before the exercise lecture. It also has very thorough worked examples to help you through the principles.
Accounting and Finance
Financial Reporting

Alexander & Britton
The book is very comprehensive for the first part of the Financial Accounting course and I would recommend purchasing this book as this
set of lectures can be very challenging at times. The book has clearly defined chapters that take you through each concept and if required,
has a section built from first principles.
I would not however, recommend buying any books for the later sections.
Accounting Standards

ICAEW
Buy this book! It contains all the Account Standards for the year and inculdes the rules, explanations and expamples. The beauty is that
you can take this book into your exams! So if your stuck for an answer, check in the book.
Investment Appraisal & Financial Decisions

Lumby & Jones
The lecture notes give a health warning that they are just notes; he isn't joking. One paragraph of handout could spand three chapters in this
text book! This is a horrible discovery if you make it just before exams like I did. however, this book doesn't cover all the topics and so needs
to be backed up by reading from the library. I would still recommend buying this one or Pike & Neale but there really isn't much in it.
Corporate Finance and Investment

Pike & Neale
Whilst significant new material has been added, the book continues to balance the conceptual and technical aspects of Corporate Finance,
without allowing theory to dominate practice. Extensive examples illustrate how the concepts of financing and investment decisions can be
applied to practical management and business policy issues.
Principles of Management

Samuel Certo
This book takes an elementary approach to management and many chapters are inculded needlessly. However, if you are new to management
I would recommend the text as the course follows the book exactly and many of the tutorial homework's are the case studies at the
end of each chapter. It also comes with a CD-ROM to take you through a fictional business which can be quite helpful.
