Session 4: Technology to eradicate deafness

In this session we consider genetic research and cochlear implants.  The professionals we have described frequently work to minimise the effects of being deaf in our society.   They often do this by trying to make the deaf person as much like a hearing person as possible.

Technology - as we saw when we described technology as part of enhancement of deaf life - can work to advance the agenda of hearingness, or not.  We may now consider technology that aims to eradicate deafness.
