Professor Sarah George

Professor George’s research group have studied the cardiovascular signalling that drives the underlying pathology and is linked to disease risk factors (including hypertension, elevated plasma cholesterol and periodontitis) using a translational approach with relevant ex vivo human tissue and cell models, small and large animal models and human pathological samples. The research aims to understand underlying mechanisms involved in atherosclerosis, restenosis, vein graft failure, aneurysms and post myocardial infarction remodelling with the aim of developing novel therapeutic approaches to improve patient outcome. Studies have revealed target genes involved in the modulation of these pathologies and subsequent analyses are underway to determine the potential of repressing the progression of pathology by delivery of novel or repurposed pharmacological agents or gene therapy.
