Kyriakos' story

Kyriakos, a Civil Engineering Student, shares their experience of Bristol and the societies they've enjoyed getting involved in.

Why Bristol?

I chose Bristol because of the University’s high-ranking position in civil engineering and the excellent reputation of the department. In addition, the location of the University in the centre of the city was a major factor in my decision. Being close to many amenities like shops, restaurants, and cultural events was important to me as it would allow me to enjoy my time outside of studying.

I like the university’s modern facilities and the supportive community on campus. The professors are knowledgeable and approachable, and the academic resources available to students are impressive. I also appreciate the university’s focus on student wellbeing, with plenty of opportunities for extracurricular activities and mental health support.

Building community

I joined the Greek Society because I am a Greek-Cypriot and it was a nice place to meet people from back home sharing the same culture. Through my work with the society, I have been contributing to our Greek traditions, connecting with other students who share my ethnic origin, and participating in cultural events and activities.

In addition, I am a member of the Basketball Society, I love playing basketball and wanted to be part of a team. The society provides a great opportunity for me to play basketball on a regular basis compete against other teams, and meet new people who share my love of the sport.
