Athena SWAN within the School for Policy Studies

The Athena SWAN charter is a framework which supports and transforms gender equality within higher education and research. It is committed to advancing the careers of women, and addresses gender equality more broadly, not just barriers to progression that affect women.

The School for Policy Studies were proud to be awarded the Athena SWAN bronze award in 2020.

The Athena Swan Charter acknowledges the efforts of organisations to ensure a positive environment for women working in social science; that they are represented at all levels, their contribution, skills and experience are recognised, and that they are retained and promoted appropriately.

Implementation of our Athena Swan action plan will be undertaken by our Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Committee, led by Ailsa Cameron.

The process has allowed us to reflect on how far our commitment to gender equality has been formalised and embedded within the School and we look forward to the potential for future improvement in challenging gendered inequalities.
