Pioneering robot poised to reach new heights in quantum

A robotic arm wielding a permanent magnet is used to navigate complex optomechanical assemblies and calibrate a single atom-like quantum sensor

Press release issued: 17 November 2023

Researchers carrying out quantum research will be able to do so faster and more adaptably, thanks to a new robotic arm developed by team in QET Labs which could hold the key to major breakthroughs.

The invention, developed by a team led by QET Labs Senior Research Associate Dr Joe Smith, in collaboration with the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, has a unique design, allowing quantum experiments to be conducted with unprecedented levels of speed, detail and complexity. The research findings and robotic arm were presented in the journal Advanced Science today (17 November).
