"I hope to use my statistical expertise to support my colleagues in addressing many interesting research questions." --Prof Richard Morris

Professor Richard Morris has joined the University of Bristol’s Centre for Academic Primary Care (CAPC) to engage his statistical expertise in a wide range of CAPC research projects.

Prof Morris is a Professor in Medical Statistics and previously worked in the department of Primary Care and Population Health at University College London, where for many years he was co-director of the British Regional Heart Study. He is interested in the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease, and specifically in why excess coronary heart disease deaths occur among older people during winter throughout Europe.

"I have already collaborated with CAPC on a wide range of research topics, as diverse as management of cardiovascular disease, emergency hospital admissions, domestic abuse, development of eczema, and use of antibiotics,” said Prof Morris. “I hope to use my statistical expertise to support my colleagues in addressing many interesting research questions. I also bring an interest in understanding why the UK has increased rates of death, especially from cardiovascular disease, during winter months, and I hope to stimulate interest in research in this broad area."
