Where did the idea for this study come from?

A national study of UK kidney units looking at the care offered to older people with kidney failure called CKMAPPS was published by the National Institute for Health Research in 2015. A number of the report’s authors are on the Prepare for Kidney Care Study team. The study showed that the nature and availability of kidney services was variable throughout the NHS. The full report is publicly available here.

The idea for the Prepare for Kidney Care Study was developed jointly by kidney teams, researchers and people with advanced kidney disease. A patient and family member representing the National Kidney Federationwere present at the first research meeting and all subsequent planning meetings. Another patient representing Kidney Care UK is co-chairing the trial steering committee.
