Press release issued: 14 June 2022

An extra 30,000 people will visit Bristol on Friday and Saturday for the first in-person open days at the University of Bristol since before the pandemic.

Each day around 15,000 people will get a taste of the courses, student life and pastoral support on offer for those who study at the University.

For many it will also be their first experience of one of the world’s best cities.

Starting from 9.30am and ending mid-afternoon, each day will see scores of talks and demonstrations on everything from computer science to microbiology.

‘Student life sessions’ will give a window into the University’s accommodation, wellbeing support services, scholarships and 350 sports groups and societies.

They will also showcase the University’s extra support for disabled, BAME and LGBTQ+ students.

Pop-up food stalls from 12 local vendors include a Spanish street food van and a Turkish grill. Student societies will perform at the Royal Fort Gardens and the Richmond Building on Queens Road.

Local residents and businesses should expect a busier day in Bristol, particularly around the heart of the Clifton Campus: Tyndall Avenue, Woodland Road, Queens Road and the Triangle.

These will be the first in-person open days since September 2019, with open days in 2020 and 2021 held online due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Professor Sarah Purdy, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Student Experience at the University of Bristol, said: “We are hugely excited to welcome prospective students and their guests back to the University for these open days.

“The city of Bristol and the University of Bristol both have huge amounts to offer students, be they local, from the UK or from around the world.

“We hope these days will showcase Bristol to a new audience, while also providing a boost for local businesses.
