Bristol welcomes the Ashinaga Foundation

13 July 2018

The University of Bristol has signed a memoranda of understanding with the Ashinaga foundation, a non-profit organisation who provide educational support to orphaned children worldwide.

The Ashinaga organisation is headquartered in Tokyo and their Africa Initiative aims to create global citizens who will become leaders for Africa.

The programme sends one orphaned student from each of the 49 Sub-Saharan countries to top universities around the world every year. The intention of the programme is to contribute to regions long-term development by empowering a generation of future leaders.

Currently the University hosts one scholar from the Ivory Coast on the programme. Dogba Djaze is studying Aerospace Engineering and has a vision to completely transform the aeronautical industry in Africa.

UK Director of the Ashinaga Foundation, Dr Michael King and UK Assistant  Director, Hiroe Nakada, came to Bristol and met with the University’s  Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr Erik Lithander, to sign a new agreement and a commit to a second scholar, from Ethiopia, who will join our International Foundation Programme in September.

Dr Michael King said; “Ashinaga is very proud to have the support of the University of Bristol in achieving its goal of educating the next generation of leaders for Africa.

We have been incredibly impressed with all aspects of the support we have received from the University, both from the academic staff, for our scholars, and the administrative staff working behind the scenes.”
