University staff and students took part in Bristol’s popular 10k race on Sunday 11 May, raising money for charities including CLIC Sargent, Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal and COCO.

The University’s Sports Medicine Clinic in Sport, Exercise and Health partnered with race organisers RunBristol to provide expert advice for runners on the day. The clinic’s physiotherapist, sports massage therapists and sport osteopath were on hand to and answer fitness-related queries, and review injuries.

Among the competitors representing the University were two Business Challenge teams and a Fit and Fabulous team. Originally developed by the Student’s Union with the support of Sport, Exercise and Health, Fit and Fabulous provides opportunities for female students to get involved in activities and sports whatever their level.

The Sports Medicine Clinic ran training events for University participants in the run-up to the race, providing advice on fitness and nutrition to help competitors prepare for the challenge and achieve their personal best. Claire Callaghan, Manager of the Sports Medicine Clinic, helped co-ordinate University runners’ fundraising efforts for Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal, which is striving to reach its £1.2 million target to support the expansion of Bristol Children’s Hospital.
