Universities Week highlights value of university research

The University of Bristol is featuring in a UK-wide campaign next week [9 – 15 June] to highlight the value and importance of university research to our everyday lives.

A number of public events will be taking place as part of Universities Week 2014, allowing the public to engage with the research that is undertaken by the university.

PhD students from the University of Bristol will take part in a special social media campaign on Wednesday 11 June, when they will give a unique insight into their day, showcasing their work and showing exactly what life is like for a PhD student. Follow #brisphdlife to keep track of their activities and get involved via Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.

The Graduate School of Education’s annual Festival of Education will be taking place from 9 – 19 June, with an exciting series of inspiring twilight talks and interactive sessions for all ages centred around the theme of professional development and school based learning.  Information on the talks and how to book can be found on the Festival of Education Website.

The Festival of Nature’s Wild Weekend on 14 and 15 June offers the opportunity to explore some of the latest research in life sciences taking place at the University of Bristol.  Researchers will also be giving talks both in the Researchers Tent and in Millennium Square from soapboxes.

The Theatre Collection will be offering workshops on 10 June led by their Artist in Residence which will give hands on access to archival collections, illustrating how museum collections can reveal insights from the past and inform life today.

Universities Week 2014 will be launched on Monday 9 June at the Natural History Museum in London where a week-long public event will showcase some of the best of UK university research.  Information about local events can be found on the Universities UK website.
