The striking gothic building, which is the centrepiece of the University of Bristol at the top of Park Street, had pink gels fitted over its normal lights to transform its appearance for the occasion.

It was in good company, with Windsor Castle, Waterloo Bridge, the Cutty Sark, Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and Belfast Castle also taking part ahead of the national ‘wear it pink’ fundraising day tomorrow [25 October].

Patrick Finch, Bursar and Director of Estates at Bristol University, said: “We were very keen to support this eye-catching and imaginative campaign in support of such an important cause. The Wills Memorial Building looked very impressive with a pink glow and we hope people were able to enjoy the transformation.”

The ‘wear it pink’ campaign raises over £2.1 million every year to help fund lifesaving research into breast cancer at institutions across the UK.

Baroness Delyth Morgan, Chief Executive of Breast Cancer Campaign, said: “We’re thrilled that some of the nation’s most well-known landmarks have joined us in highlighting the importance of breast cancer research. We hope this will raise awareness of breast cancer and encourage people to take action themselves by taking part in ‘wear it pink’.

“Breast cancer is still the most common cancer in the UK and thousands of lives are lost each year. We hope that people join in and support research to help us overcome breast cancer by 2050.”

The students from Bristol raised £866.24 through bucket collections, contributing to over £41,000 raised by students from across the country.
