Press release issued: 8 October 2013

The Anson Rooms, one of Bristol’s best-loved music venues, is reopening with a bang next week after a major refurbishment. It will welcome back live music for the first time in over a year when its autumn line-up kicks off with Johnny Flynn and The Sussex Wit on Monday [14 October].

Countless unforgettable gigs have been held in The Anson rooms since it opened in 1965, with big names such as The Who, The Kinks, David Bowie, Slade, Massive Attack, Radiohead, Amy Winehouse and Coldplay gracing the stage.

Now, after undergoing a full refurbishment and redesign, the venue is preparing to welcome back live music for the first time in over a year when its autumn line-up kicks off with Johnny Flynn and The Sussex Wit on Monday [14 October].

Electro-pop threesome Chvrches perform on 15 October, before ethereal London Grammar take to the stage on 20 October for their sell-out gig.

The Anson Rooms are now a multipurpose space for performance and live music, ready to host the cutting-edge contemporary music which has been the foundation of its reputation, welcoming thousands of music-loving Bristolians and students over the past four decades.

Its transformation is part of the on-going £25million refurbishment of the Richmond Building, home to the University of Bristol Students’ Union (UBU) on Richmond Road.
