3 December 2013

Professor Dave Cliff from the University’s Department of Computer Science will present a programme on BBC Four about the world of logic. The programme airs tonight, Tuesday 3 December on BBC Four at 9 pm.

The search for certainty and sound reasoning are the subject of a programme presented by Dave Cliff, Professor of Computer Science in the Department of Computer Science.

Professor Cliff will provide a light-hearted look at the worlds of philosophy, mathematics, science and technology, all of which require a sound basis of logic.

During the programme he will create the world's first child-run computer, and meet youngsters competing in the International Olympiad of Informatics in Brisbane, Australia, before assessing whether mankind can stay ahead in the field of logistics, or whether it is in danger of creating a machine smarter than the most logical human mind.

The Joy of Logic will be broadcast on BBC Four tonight, Tuesday 3 December, at 9 pm.
