Admore Tshuma, a PhD student at the University and a part-time lecturer, was presented with a Zimbabwe International Performance Alliance (ZIPA) award for his outstanding journalism highlighting the daily reality of living under President Mugabe's oppressive regime. Admore has written many research articles for the print media in Southern Africa as well as for the national tabloids and broadsheets in the UK about Zimbabwe's troubles.

On receiving his award, presented by the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Admore said: "I am so delighted to have been honoured By ZIPA-UK through the Lord Mayor of Canterbury Robert Waters. My goal is to use the global platform to tell an African story in an African way. The story is about poverty, socioeconomic injustices, human rights abuses and dictatorship which unfortunately has characterised post-colonial Africa. This explains why I have done a PhD in Social Policy.

"The aim is to try and make Africa a better continent.

"Our story has been told by others for a very long time."
