The Society was founded and works for the study and advancement of plant pathology.  It has members from all over the world and from all branches of plant pathology, supporting the professional interests of plant pathologists worldwide through a wide range of activities and mechanisms, ranging from meetings, to travel funds through to studentships.  The most significant profile of the Society is through the publication of three major international journals in the field.

Professor Gary Foster said: “It is an amazing honour to represent this international society in this way and at such a vitally important time when global food security is such a vital and urgent issue, where plant pathology plays a major role.

“Though my greatest pleasure was when I was described as one of the youngest presidents ever!  Not often I get 'youngest' associated with me these days, so an added bonus.”

Professor Foster will serve on the BSPP Board for 3 years, one as Vice President, one as President-Elect and then finally one year as President and Chair of the Board.
