Alan Webber, a handyman in Maintenance Services, died on 15 April, 2012 aged 62. His colleague John Black offers this tribute.

Alan joined the University in 2005 and worked for Maintenance Services as a handyman at Manor Hall, Clifton, before moving to the Hawthorns. He joined us after a long and successful career with Britannia Zinc Ltd Smelter, at Avonmouth, where he had worked for 27 years in the Maintenance Department as a Maintenance Rigger before transferring to the training dept to take up the position of Training Advisor.

He had a great passion for sport, especially football and played for several local teams in the Avonmouth area before going on to manage The National Smelting team. His other great passion was music and could be heard on numerous occasions throughout the years singing along to Status Quo.

Alan was a real genuine person, a kind and thoughtful man with a fantastic sense of humour. He will be sadly missed by all his friends and work colleagues. Our thoughts are with his family.
