Bristol University is awarding honorary degrees to Professor Julia Slingo, OBE, Chief Scientist, UK Meteorological Office and Mr Daniel Day-Lewis, Actor, at today’s [15 July] degree ceremonies in the Wills Memorial Building.

Bristol University is awarding honorary degrees to Professor Julia Slingo, OBE, Chief Scientist, UK Meteorological Office and Mr Daniel Day-Lewis, Actor, at today’s [15 July] degree ceremonies in the Wills Memorial Building.

Professor Julia Slingo, OBE, Chief Scientist, UK Meteorological Office, and a Bristol graduate, will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Science at the 11.15 am ceremony. The orator for the ceremony is Paul Valdes, Professor of Physical Geography at the University.

Mr Daniel Day-Lewis, Actor, alumnus, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Letters at the 2.30 pm ceremony. The orator for the ceremony is Martin White, Professor of Theatre at the University.

An honorary degree is a major accolade, awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement and distinction in a field or activity consonant with the University’s mission.
