Semana Cultural 2010

3 February 2010

This year’s Semana Cultural (Cultural Week) begins on Monday 8 March.

The Semana Cultural is a highly successful annual event celebrating and examining Luso-Hispanic culture, organised by the Department of Hispanic, Portuguese and Latin American Studies. This year’s events, sponsored by the Santander Group, include a talk by the award-winning translator Margaret Jull-Costa; a round-table discussion on the chances of the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American teams in the 2010 World Cup; film showings; and readings by the Chilean poet Andrés Anwandter, as well as daily live music and lectures and seminars on a wide range of topics. Admission is free and open to all.

The week culminates, as ever, in two performances of a play in Spanish devised, written and performed by students on the award-winning Language Through Theatre course. This year performance is Quien abra la caja tiene la culpa.
