Bristol hosts charity dinner to help conservation and alleviate poverty in Kenya

The comedian, Rory Bremner, will be the guest of honour at a charity dinner hosted by the University of Bristol next month [3 December] to help raise funds for the Bristol-Kenya 2012 Partnership and the Tusk Trust, a UK-based charity that supports African conservation, education and community development projects.

The event, which is open to all, will begin with a champagne reception at 7.30 pm followed by dinner at 8 pm. Satirical impressionist, Rory Bremner, and the Hornstars, the University’s award-winning big band, will provide entertainment. The evening will end with an auction with proceeds going to support a range of Kenyan charitable causes. Auction items include a safari holiday in Kenya and a sculpture by renowned animal sculptress and Rory Bremner's wife, Tessa Campbell Fraser.

Organiser of the event, Bob Reeves, Director of Sport, Exercise and Health at the University, said: ”We are delighted to be hosting the event to help raise much-needed funds to help support The Trust and the Bristol-Kenya 2012 Partnership, which links the University and the city with Kenya leading up to the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. Money raised from the dinner will also go to support the Trust’s Kenya-based projects, particularly education ones.

“Rory is a very active patron of TUSK, and this is the first time he has offered to host on the charity’s events outside London. It will be a very special event.”

The dinner, which is sponsored by Great Western Wine and Painted Wolf Wines, will take place in the Great Hall, University of Bristol Wills Memorial Building on Thursday 3 December 2009. Bristol-Kenya 2012 Partnership The Bristol-Kenya Partnership, a charity, has been established to support and develop a wide range of activities associated with an agreement between the City of Bristol and the Republic of Kenya, which will lead to the Kenyans using the University of Bristol as a training camp prior to the 2012 Olympics.
