Bristol was one of only 11 UK universities to attain a place in the Excellence Group in all three disciplines based on the outstanding achievements in citations and publications of the Departments of Economics, Psychology and Politics.

This is a remarkable achievement as the Bristol departments were chosen out of 180 specialist departments from over 100 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in 20 European countries.

Professor Judith Squires, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, said:  “I am delighted with this result which demonstrates the quality of our courses and staff, and the achievements of the students and researchers in our Departments of Economics and Politics.”

The CHE ExcellenceRanking highlights the research strengths of European HEIs. In addition to the quantitative measurements, the CHE ExcellenceRanking also contains a great deal of additional information on master’s or doctoral programmes, student opinions, research groups and the research focal points of given departments as well as accommodation possibilities and study fees.

Professor Squires added: “Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our talented staff, our programmes at Bristol are presented to the world as being of the very highest standard and the most attractive to potential students.”

In 2007, the Centre for Higher Education Development focused on the quality of universities’ graduate programmes in natural science and awarded Bristol’s four science departments a total of 11 medals.
