Dr Deeming was awarded the 2009 Social Policy & Administration Early Stage Career Researcher prize for an article entitled ‘Determining semi-normative poverty lines using social survey data’. The purpose of the prize is to encourage submissions of papers by early stage career researchers to leading policy and research journal Social Policy & Administration.

A conference paper entitled ‘Drawing semi-normative poverty lines in family expenditure survey data’ has also won the 2009 Social Policy Association’s (SPA) award for best postgraduate paper. This award was presented by Nick Timmins, Social Policy Editor of the Financial Times and SPA President, at the Social Policy Association’s annual conference dinner at the University of Edinburgh on 29 June.

Dr Deeming graduated last year with his thesis on ‘The meaning and measurement of poverty’, supervised by Professors Peter Townsend and Dave Gordon.
