Two students from the University of Bristol have been selected to attend Roche Continents 2009, a multinational networking event for science, music and fine art students and post-docs from across Europe.

Leo Tobisch, a third-year Music student, and Skye Hodson, a PhD student in the Department of Biochemistry, are two of 100 students who will have the opportunity to spend a week in Salzburg, Austria during the renowned 2009 Salzburg Festival at the beginning of August. This is the first time that Bristol students have been selected to attend the annual event.

Roche Continents comprises a series of workshops, concerts and group discussion sessions aimed at exploring the common ground of creativity and innovation in the arts and science. The event is sponsored by biotech company Roche.

Skye Hodson said: ‘I am thrilled to have been selected to participate in Roche Continents and am really looking forward to an inspiring event. It will be a unique opportunity to meet and network with a wide diversity of people. The week promises to be innovative, fun and a productive distraction from my research!’

Leo Tobisch added: ‘I’m very excited at the prospect of attending several of the Salzburg Festival concerts, as well as the “Kontinente” music series, featuring the compositions of prominent 20th- and 21st-century composers.’
