Press release issued: 25 June 2009

The greatest mass extinction of all time, human simulators, the physics of ice cream and the study of the mind are just some of the taster lectures taking place today [25 June] at the University of Bristol for its biannual open day.

The greatest mass extinction of all time, human simulators, the physics of ice cream and the study of the mind are just some of the taster lectures taking place today [25 June] at the University of Bristol for its twice-yearly open day.

Around 11,000 visitors from across the country are expected at the event, at which prospective students will be offered a chance to see what the University has to offer, including over 60 different taster lectures hosted by the University’s undergraduate departments.

There will also be a chance for visitors to visit University accommodation and a student support services exhibition, and attend general information talks relating to many aspects of higher education with specific sessions for parents, teachers, careers advisers and mature students.

Over 100 student stewards, wearing red T-shirts, will be on hand to help visitors find their way around the University precinct.

Bristol remains one of the UK’s most popular universities in terms of the number of applicants per place and was also rated in the top ten in the universities league table, The Times Good University Guide 2010.

Lorraine Norman, the University’s Undergraduate Events Officer, said: “It’s a pleasure to have so many people visiting us during the University’s centenary year and we hope students find the day informative and enjoyable. Prospective students will be able to meet staff and view the University’s facilities to see what opportunities are available at Bristol.”

The next open day is on Friday 18 September 2009. For further information visit the website. Please note that this event requires a ticket to attend and tickets will be available from the 22 July.
